Eric studied law, political sciences and languages. He began his legal career as an academic in various Universities in Paris, France (Universities Pantheon Sorbonne, Paris Jussieu, Paris Nanterre and in Norway (Oslo University). In 1993 he was appointed member of the board of the prestigious University Pantheon Assas.

 

His teaching was mainly about International law and English Legal Terminology, whereas his researches dealt with international human rights and the status of aliens. From 1980 to 1983 he was Director of Studies with UNESCO and lead a major study on the status of migrants in Europe.

 

Eric founded his law firm in 1983 and was associated for many years with a Norwegian law firm. He then specialized in the oil industry and finance, advising many large corporations in these areas.

 

In 1986 he co-founded the Euro American Lawyers Group, a grouping of law firms in more than 25 countries, which he is today presiding over.

 

Eric founded Thomas, Mayer & Associés (TMA) in Paris, France, which changed its name to VESPERA AVOCATS in September 2020.

 

After Eric had retired from the former firm of Thomas, Mayer & Associés in Hong Kong in 2020, he joined Lily Fenn & Partners with which he had been associated for many years. 

 

Eric has a vast experience in cross-border investments, M&A, oil and finance and international arbitration. With more than 25 years of experience in Asia, he has advised Western clients in their operations in China and most of the Asian countries.

 

Since 2007, Eric is the Legal Adviser of the General Consulate of France in Hong Kong and Macau. He is the Chairman of the France-Hong Kong Business Association and Director of the Federation of Hong Kong Business Associations Worldwide.

 

Eric speaks more than six languages, and four of which fluently.
